Education

1) Preparatory departments for foreigners

There are departments (classes) preparing pupils coming from abroad to study in a Polish school. They teach them all subjects and additionally Polish as a foreign language.

Education in the preparatory department lasts until the end of didactic and educational classes in the school year in which the student was qualified to this department. Depending on the pupil’s progress and educational needs, the pupil’s period of study in the preparatory department may be shortened or extended by no more than one school year. The decision to shorten or extend the period of study in the preparatory department is made by the pedagogical council at the request of the teacher, pedagogue or psychologist.

Classes are conducted according to school curricula implemented with methods and forms adapted to individual development and educational needs as well as psychophysical abilities of students.

While studying in the preparatory department, pupils are supported by a teacher using the pupil’s native language.

3) The universities in Poznań have interesting projects to offer to students from abroad who study in Poznań. Apart from the broad offer of studies in English (getting richer every year), Polish language courses and the so-called orientation week (related to functioning at a university and in a new country), universities organize various intercultural meetings. Here are some examples of actions:

– Poznan University of Technology organizes the Culture Week, during which students from abroad can learn more about Polish cinema, cuisine, famous people, Polish and local traditions. Another interesting event organized by the University of Technology is the Intercultural Cafe / Intercultural Café where students learn about the countries of origin of their colleagues.
