A crucial initiative to better express the potential of intercultural skills present in the territory was the organisation of a whole series of training courses for more structured use of Italian Language (L2) at both school and extra-curricular level. Teaching Italian to people of foreign origin – not only to students, but also to mums, for instance – means not only giving them space and voice, as well as knowledge of new traditions, rules and customs, but also investing in the growth of the territory, building respect and creating new relationships.
The Municipality of Reggio Emilia promotes a network of schools working on teaching Italian Language L2 to people of foreign origin. The Diritto di parola – “Right to speak” network organises different modules according to linguistic levels that go from basic literacy to levels A1, A2, B1 and B2, following the indications suggested in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
