The Romanian National Council for Refugees

It is a non-governmental organisation founded in 1998, having been granted public utility status in 2003.  CNRR’s mission is to promote and defend through all legal means human rights in general, and particularly those of migrants, refugees and asylum seekers’ rights. This association provides online assistance.

Activities

  • Offer specialised legal counselling for registered asylum seekers in all Reception Centres – General Inspectorate for Immigration (Bucharest, Galati, Timisoara, Maramures si Radauti) and for those living in other locations, including transit areas and at border crossing points.
  • Offer specialised assistance for vulnerable groups: unaccompanied children, single women, elderly persons, etc.
  • Write procedural documents for asylum seekers
  • Provide legal assistance in court for cases that have a high chance of creating a positive new judicial practice
  • Provide training and guidance for lawyers and legal counsellors with the aim of improving the quality of specialised assistance for asylum seekers
  • Provide training and guidance for translators to improve the quality of specialised translations
  • Research and provide country of origin information in the refugee status determination procedure for judges, lawyers, legal counsellors and other administrative bodies
  • Provide training sessions for future legal and social experts in the field of migration
  • Advocate for facilitating access to social services and benefits, labour, citizenship and long-term residence, family reunification/reunion and other rights for beneficiaries of international protection
  • Provide counselling, legal assistance and translation services for migrants that have received a return decision
  • Provide counselling and specialised assistance for migrants that are taken into public custody
  • Organize round tables, seminars and debates for stakeholders in the field of migration, integration and asylum
  • Are engaged in transnational cooperation – strengthen cooperation between public authorities and civil society within multiple partnerships in Central and South-East Europe.
